Wal-Mart vs. America

I believe that Wal-Mart is bad for America, because it is greatly affecting local retailers as well as local consumers. It is making American's believe that it is okay to buy goods for extremely low prices, even if it costs others an acceptable standard of living- even in another country. I think that it does not respect the 7 principles of Catholic Social teachings. Wal-Mart does not respect their workers rights, especially since they push their workers around and portray to the public that they a wonderful company. Also, Wal-Mart goes against the poor by violating the dignity of work and the rights of workers. They don't treat their workers with respect and throw them around like they are no big deal. Especially women, who get hardly any respect. It isn't fair or right that women get abused in positions and promised raises, when it is all just a scam. The one thing that Wal-Mart does seem to respect is the options for the poor, giving them job opportunities across the board. That is one thing Wal-Mart does do, even if it treats its employees horribly.
I would not ever consider working at Wal-Mart, especially after seeing these videos because if I were to try to get a part-time job, I don't want to feel pressured to work overtime, more than I want, or in a situation that I am not comfortable in. Wal-Mart now truly gives me the feeling of uneasiness when it comes to their employees, because I would hate the feeling of working at a place that treats me like that, and I am not okay with a company treating others like that.
After watching these documentaries I will think twice about shopping at major retailers and try to choose locally owned shops more often. I do not agree with buying everything overseas, especially it is building our national debt. The more I can help reduce that, and help local business the better- in my opinion.
